Paukstadt, U. & Paukstadt, L. H. (2004): Opodiphthera (Syntherata) doboensis sp. nov., ein neuer wilder Seidenspinner vom Aru Archipel, Indonesien (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). - Beiträge zur Kenntnis der wilden Seidenspinner (Wilhelmshaven), 2 (2): pp. 87-100; 2 col.-pls. with 17 figs., 1 b/w-pl. with 3 [+3] figs., 3 b/w-figs.

Opodiphthera (Syntherata) doboensis sp. nov., a new wild silkmoth from the Aru Archipelago, Indonesia (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae).

Summary: A new species of the genus Opodiphthera WALLENGREN, 1858 (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) is described: Opodiphthera (Syntherata) doboensis sp. nov. Thus far the new species is only known from the Aru Archipelago, southeastern Moluccas, Indonesia. The morphology of doboensis sp. nov. is distinct from related populations from other islands in the Moluccas and the island of New Guinea. O. (S.) doboensis sp. nov. is closely related to O. (S.) innescens NAUMANN & BRECHLIN, 2001 from Ambon and Seram, Moluccas, O. (S.) sinjaevi NAUMANN & BRECHLIN, 2001 from Halmahera, Moluccas, and O. (S.) janetta (WHITE, 1843) sensu lato from Australia. The new taxon is described in species rank due to the geographic isolation of the Aru Archipelago from New Guinea, Australia, and the remaining islands in the Moluccas. The generic names Syntherata MAASSEN in Maassen [& Weymer], 1873, Pararhodia COCKERELL, 1914, Neodiphthera FLETCHER in Fletcher & Nye, 1982, and Opodiphthera WALLENGREN, 1858 are herewith remaining in subgeneric rank in the genus Opodiphthera WALLENGREN, 1858 due to almost similar structures in the male genitalia structures. Above mentioned subgenera are needed revised.

Ngengat pra-dewasanya belum ditemukan. Selain itu, biologi dan ekologinyapun belum dilaporkan. Holotipe, berberapa paratipe dan spesimen awetan organ genitalia disimpan di Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense (Cibinong, Indonesia).
