Deformations in antennae of adults of Attacus suparmani U. PAUKSTADT & L. H. PAUKSTADT, 2002 (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). -

Summary: This paper reports on deformations in the male antennae, which were observed in wild collected Attacus suparmani PAUKSTADT & PAUKSTADT, 2002 (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) from the island of Alor, eastern Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia. The antennae of most of the specimens were observed being of normal length and the flagellomeres of the quadripectinate type as in other species of the genus Attacus LINNAEUS, 1767 of the tribe Attacini BLANCHARD, 1840. The rami of the flagellomeres of a few antennae were observed being partly asymmetrical reduced to varying degree in the length, and the transverse sections of the rami are occasionally partly balloon-like increased. The rami bearing hair-like sensilla trichodea as in other antennae of suparmani. Some examples on antennae showing deformations are figured. No conclusions are drawn herein.
