Paukstadt, U. & Paukstadt, L. H. (2002): Die Zeichnungsvariabilität bei Attacus atlas (Linnaeus, 1758) aus taiwanesischen Populationen (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). - Galathea - Berichte des Kreises Nürnberger Entomologen eV (Nürnberg), 18 (3): pp. 129-132; 4 b/w figs.

Summary: The giant atlas moth Attacus atlas (Linnaeus, 1758) from Taiwan was repeatedly successfully reared by the authors. Adults of this rearings surprisingly demonstrated a considerable variability in either the wing pattern, or in the wing shapes. Extremes in the morphologically variations of the adults were found being mostly asymmetrically present. Variations discussed in this contribution were observed not being restricted to the Taiwanese populations of the atlas moth. Further examples on this variability are present in Coll. L. H. Paukstadt (Wilhelmshaven, Germany) at taxa of the genus Samia Hübner, 1819 ("1816") and are likely in other genera of the tribus Attacini Blanchard, 1840.
