Summary: The life-history of Antheraea (Antheraea) larissa larissa (Westwood, 1847) from the island of Jawa, Indonesia (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). -
For the first time the preimaginal instars of Antheraea (Antheraea) larissa larissa (Westwood, 1847) from the island of Jawa, Indonesia are described and figured in color. In Indonesia the vernacular name of the remarkable caterpillar is "ulat mas" (= golden caterpillar). The 1st instar larva is clearly distinct from those of other taxa of the genus Antheraea Hübner, 1819 ("1816") by its white ground coloration; from the 3rd instar the scoli mostly are supported by glossy silver or golden colored fleshy extensions of body, which are occasionally present in some other taxa of the frithi-subgroup (sensu Nässig 1991) of the mylitta/frithi-group (sensu Paukstadt, Brosch & Paukstadt 1999) as well.
