Summary: Studies on the morphology and variability of wing ocelli in Attacus inopinatus Jurriaanse & Lindemans, 1920 (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). - This contribution to knowledge the Indonesian wild silkmoths (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) particularly deals with the morphology and the variablity of the wing ocelli in male adults of Attacus inopinatus Jurriaanse & Lindemans, 1920. This taxon of the tribus Attacini Blanchard, 1840 is distributed from Lombok via Sumbawa to Flores and Sumba, the eastern limits of the range are only poorly known. Wing ocelli of adults preserved in Coll. L. H. Paukstadt (Wilhelmshaven, Germany), which were collected at light on the islands of Flores, Sumbawa and Lombok are described and compared herein. A. inopinatus is a highly variable moth, particularly in the shapes of wing fenestrae. Although only a relatively small number of specimens was available for comparisons, our studies revealed that likely a geographical and/or climatic variability is present besides the individual variability. The variability in fenestrae is demonstrated and discussed.
