Paukstadt, U., Paukstadt, L. H. & Naumann, S. (2000): Die Taxa der Gattung Antheraea Hübner, [1819] 1816 von der Insel Bali, Indonesien (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). - Entomologische Zeitschrift (Stuttgart), 110 (2): pp. 55-57.

Summary: This contribution to knowledge the wild silkmoths particularly deals with the taxa of the genus Antheraea Hübner, 1819 ("1816") (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) from the island of Bali, Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia. Thus far only three taxa of the subgenus Antheraea Hübner, 1819 ("1816") are known to inhabit the island of Bali, those are Antheraea jana (Stoll, 1782), A. platessa Rothschild, 1903 [recte: this population presently is placed to Antheraea raffrayi Bouvier, 1928] and A. larissa (Westwood, 1847) [remarks: presently this record is considered erroneous since no further specimens were collected, specimens on hands are considered being mislabeled.]. A. platessa [recte A. raffrayi] and A. larissa are recorded for the first time from Bali. Remarks on the taxonomic status of some Southeast Asian Antheraea are presented. The taxon yunnanensis Chu & Wang, 1993 (syn. nov.) from Yunnan was erroneously described as a subspecies of A. pernyi (Guérin-Méneville, 1855) which is a member of the pernyi-group. It is herewith treated as a new synonym for A. platessa ornata Bouvier, 1929 (stat. nov.) which is a member of the frithi-subgroup of the mylitta/frithi-group (sensu U. Paukstadt, Brosch & L. H. Paukstadt 1999). It is pointed out that further studies might reveal that the populations of A. platessa and A. larissa from Java and Bali are distinct on subspecific level from those from other parts of their ranges.
