Paukstadt, U. & Kohll, S. (1994): Beschreibung des neuen Attacus-Hybriden A. caesar x A. lorquinii sowie dessen Präimaginalstadien (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). - Entomologische Zeitschrift (Essen), 104 (11): pp. 193-203; 12 figs.

Summary: Description of a new artifical hybrid in the genus Attacus Linnaeus, 1767. - A mating of a male of Attacus caesar Maassen in Maassen [& Weymer], 1873 from the island of Marinduque and a female of A. lorquinii C. & R. Felder, 1861 from the island of Luzon, Philippines was obtained by H. Probst (Germany). The hybrid larvae were reared and photographed by the junior author. The preimaginal instars and the male and female moths of this new artificial hybrid are thoroughly described and figured for the first time. It was found that the morphology of larvae in all larval instars and of the hybrid male and the sterile hybrid female moths mostly show characters of either both parent species or intermediate ones, characters of A. lorquinii predominate. No defensive glands, which are present in A. caesar but absent in A. lorquinii were observed being present in the hybrid larvae.
