Paukstadt, U. & Paukstadt, L. H. (1992): Ein neuer Attacus-Hybride (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). - Entomologische Zeitschrift (Essen), 102 (23): pp. 437-444; 8 figs.

Summary: A mating of a male Attacus atlas (Linnaeus, 1758) from the island of Java and a female A. inopinatus Jurriaanse & Lindemans, 1920 from the island of Flores, Indonesia was obtained by the authors. The hybrid larvae were reared and photographed by the co-author and observations on the biology were made. For the first time the preimaginal instars and the adult male and female moths of this new artificial hybrid are thoroughly described and figured. It was found that the 1st till 4th instar hybrid larvae are closer in coloration and pattern to A. atlas than to A. inopinatus and that the mature larvae exhibit intermediate characters. The male and the sterile female adults show characters of both parent species and intermediate ones, characters of atlas predominate.
