Paukstadt, U. & Paukstadt, L. H. (1992): Beobachtungen zur Dauer des Eistadiums bei Attacus atlas (Linnaeus 1758) aus westjawanischen Populationen (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). - Entomologische Zeitschrift (Essen), 102 (20): pp. 387-388.

Summary: This contribution deals with some new rearing observations on Attacus atlas (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) from western Java, Indonesia. Thus far it was known that the duration of the ovarian stage ranges from eight to approximately fifteen days in the genus Attacus Linnaeus, 1767. For the first time larvae of A. atlas were observed hatching in Germany under normal indoor rearing conditions after approximately fourteen weeks. This indicates that certain (all?) taxa of the genus Attacus are physiologically able to remain in diapause in the egg stage, as well as in the pupal stage. Further observations are needed. For the first time the ornamental Ficus benjamini is recorded as an indoor hostplant.
